Twenty years ago, a late-night brainstorming session sparked the creation of a game-changing architecture and design firm; a firm that would redefine how people experience the spaces where they live, work, and gather. Founding Principals, Deborah Elliott (CID, NCIDQ, LEED AP) and Amy Morway (CID, LEED AP), both veterans in the field, set out to build a design firm grounded in a progressive, supportive, and collaborative work culture. Their vision turned into reality as the firm known as ID Studios.
Amy Morway reflects, “Our early years were about laying the foundation for a firm rooted in integrity, innovation, and a balanced work-life culture.” Along the way, the firm has consistently attracted top talent and earned recognition as one of San Diego’s best places to work. It’s this rare combination of creative drive, client focus, and a thriving workplace culture that has solidified ID Studios as a standout innovator in the industry.
“We wanted to redefine how spaces could inspire and enhance everyday experiences,” Deborah adds when reflecting on their guiding principles. This is exemplified in the work they do for clients as well as ID Studios’ current space in Solana Beach, a stunning office that showcases the firm’s growth and vibrant culture. “Our goal is to create spaces that support operational excellence while serving as a daily source of creativity and inspiration for both employees and clients.”
As ID Studios expanded its portfolio and influence, leadership and ownership evolved to include seasoned team members Jill Russell-Layman (CID, NCIDQ), Rich Güereña (RA, NCARB) and Maegen Curry (NCIDQ) each bringing unique expertise and vision to the firm.
Jill and Rich joined the ownership group in 2020. Jill is a Certified Interior Designer with both the state of California and NCIDQ. She contributes to the firm’s daily operations and leads Strategic Planning efforts for some of ID Studios’ most significant projects. Rich is a California Registered Architect, who oversees the more technical aspects of ID Studios projects, including the Life Science Market sector, and also heads up business management.
Maegen joined the Principal group in 2023. As an NCIDQ Certified Interior Designer, she brings exceptional design talent and guidance to the executive leadership at ID Studios. In addition to overseeing design teams for clients, Maegen champions marketing efforts, contributing significantly to the firm’s business development and promotions.
“Collaboration and continuity have been key to our success,” remarks Jill, emphasizing ID Studios’ commitment to nurturing talent and embracing new challenges. Rich echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the firm’s evolution in adapting to industry trends and client needs.
Looking ahead, ID Studios remains dedicated to pushing design boundaries and delivering unparalleled client experiences. “Our vision for the next decade is centered on expanding our impact while maintaining the personalized touch that defines us,” notes Amy. “We are committed to leveraging technology, sustainability, and creativity to shape environments that inspire and endure.”
As ID Studios celebrates 20 years of design excellence, the firm celebrates its founders’ influence while embracing a future full of promise and innovation. With a steadfast focus on client satisfaction, creativity, and community impact, ID Studios looks forward to continuing its journey of transforming spaces and “Enriching People’s Lives Through Thoughtful Design.”
